M Family Foundation 2020 – Ovarian Cancer Education All Year

M Family Foundation 2020 – Ovarian Cancer Education All Year

The M Family Foundation established in 2017 by Dr. David A. Marcantel, Kelly M. McCarthy, and Thomas Meury will continue to push forward in 2020 with a “perfect vision” of advancing the foundation’s mission of increasing education, raising awareness, and providing support to Ovarian Cancer patients. In addition to the foundation’s annual charity event taking place on Sunday, September 13, 2020 (Cancer Superhero 5K and Fun Run), the foundation will lead the conversation monthly on various areas of ovarian cancer. To start this conversation, let’s talk more about what ovarian cancer is.

**Ovarian cancer occurs when abnormal cells in the ovary begin to multiply out of control and form a tumor. If left untreated, the tumor can spread to other parts of the body. This is called metastatic ovarian cancer. The ovaries are two female reproductive glands that produce ova, or eggs. They also produce the female hormones estrogen and progesterone.

For additional questions or concerns about ovarian cancer or to schedule a screening, give us a call at 407.566. 2229. For assistance, information, or ways to get involved with the M Family Foundation, submit an application at MFamilyFoundation.org.

New Year, New You: Health and Wellness Trends in 2020

New Year, New You: Health and Wellness Trends in 2020

Self-care, self-love, and empowerment are key words for 2020 health and wellness trends for women. The American Medical Association is committed to leading our nation in making changes to prevent and reduce chronic illnesses. “With too many holiday sweets and not enough exercise likely in the rearview mirror, now is the perfect time to consider your personal goals and how you can make positive health choices in the coming year. The good news is that there are a few easy steps you can take that will set you on the right track for a healthier 2020.” -AMA President Patrice A. Harris, MD, MA

The AMA recommends taking the following steps to increase health and wellness in 2020:

Know your blood pressure numbers. Patients can go to loweryourHBP.org to better understand their blood pressure numbers and take necessary steps to get their high blood pressure under control. This will reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke.

Take antibiotics exactly as prescribed. Antibiotic resistance is a serious public health problem. More than 2.8 million antibiotic-resistant infections occur annually in the U.S. and kill more than 35,000 people each year, according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Antibiotics will not make patients feel better if they have a virus such as a cold or flu.

If consuming alcohol, do so in moderation. Women should only drink up to one drink per day, and men should only drink up to two drinks per day, as defined by the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Only adults of legal drinking age should consume alcohol.

Trends come and go, and what may have been popular one year can be cast to the bottom of the pile another year. But one thing is always true when it comes to women’s health and wellness trends in 2020, and that is that there will be a continued advancement in all self-love practices. A woman’s wellness is directly tied to finding peace within herself and celebrating what it is to be a woman.
